Lake Ladora is located just out side Denver in Commerce City, Colorado. It is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services at The Rocky Mountain Arsenal. This beautiful habitat reconstructed by the Army Corps of Engineers, makes Lake Ladora and Lake Mary great places within the city limits to break a way for lunch, stop before or after work and rip some lips. This lake is a BARBLESS CATCH AND RELEASE lake. This is strictly enforced so to avoid a hefty fine shave or bend them barbs down. It costs $3.00USD to fish for the day here, you will find parking close to well maintained restrooms with easy access to the lake. Ladora is populated by 7 different fish species: Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Blue Gill/Green Sunfish, Chain Pickerel, Chinese Gizzard Shad and White Suckers. So next time you are in town grab your tackle and hit one of these two beautiful lakes.
Hours of Operations
Lake Ladoga: I arrived at Ladora around 7am, I was one of 5 anglers that were fishing. The sun was hot that day but there was some decent largemouth bass and northerns caught along the dam all morning. I was whipping around 4" white spinners and DareDevil Spoons of all sizes. After a few hours of nothing but northerns following my lures to shore I decided to switch it up to a 3/4 oz Neon Orange KastMaster. I tried a few retrieve patterns. I finally got my first bite on a slow crawl retrieve about 20 yards off shore. I pulled in my first 24" Northern of the day. I was surprised that not even 5 mins after my first release, my KastMaster was struck hard again about 40 yards to the west of my first catch. I pulled in a 2nd Northern this one was 25". While fishing I heard stories from local fishermen of 36-42 inch Northerns and 5-10lb Largemouth bass being caught. This lake is pretty easy lake to fish if you have the proper tackle. Lake Ladora is a hidden gem for you city folks that want to fish with out having to commute 3 hrs to the mountains. I found this lake to be a great lake to fish. Next time I am in the city I am gonna make a full day of fishing. I will report next time on my Bass fishing experience soon.
